    Dra. Fdez-Argüelles was awarded in 2004 with a predoctoral scholarship from the "Plan de Ciencia y Tecnología del Principado de Asturias". She obtained a Ph.D. in Chemistry (2008) under the supervision of Dr. Costa-Fernández and Prof. Pereiro at the Analytical Spectrometry Research Group headed by Prof. Sanz-Medel, recognized with a European mention, awarded with the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize of the University of Oviedo, the San Alberto Magno Doctoral Thesis Award of the Official College of Chemists from Asturias and Leon, and the Thesis Award of the Spanish Applied Spectroscopy Society. She was "Profesor ayudante" and "Profesor Ayudante Doctor" (2007-2013, and 2016-to date, University of Oviedo), teaching more than 1200 hours of lectures in different degrees.

    She achieved specialization in diverse fields of Nanoscience and Bioanalytical Chemistry through different stays in leading international research groups, including the Integrated Nanotechnology & Biomedical Sciences Laboratory at the University of Toronto, Canada, headed by Prof. Chan (2005 and 2013), the Center for Nanoscience at the Ludwig Maximilians Universitaat, Germany, working under the supervision of Prof. Parak (2006), the Faculty of Sciences at the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom, in the group of Prof. Nann (2009), and the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, Portugal (2014-2016) leading her research group "Nanoparticles for Bioanalytical Applications".

    The combination of the lecturer position at the University of Oviedo with 60 months in foreign research centers has given Dra. Fdez-Argüelles the opportunity to work in multidisciplinary and cross-culture research teams achieving proven experience on the development of optical bioanalytical methodologies to solve real problems, and a long and successful trajectory working on the synthesis, surface modification and application of different types of NPs for bioanalytical applications (detection of bacteria, toxins, anions, etc), publishing her results in prestigious journals such as Nano Letters, Chemical Communications, Nanoscale or Journal of Materials Chemistry, etc.
